Abstract

This contribution covers several challenges and ethical issues raised by the methodology and neuroimaging techniques used in cognitive neuroscience, the main aim being to pose questions, rather than to offer answers. The paper discusses the challenge of scientific and cultural interpretation оf neuroimaging data, as well as the concepts of privacy of thought, cognitive liberty, the right to psychological continuity, and the issue of simplifying complex concepts in order to conduct research. A commentary on the interaction of cognitive neuroscience and society is also included. The primary aim is raising awareness of these ethical issues, offering a critical perspective and encouraging a scientific debate.
